Introduction

FR-Basic tools have been carefully designed to be assembled by modules. Each FR-Basic tool is made by five modules

  • Core Unit,
  • Case Type,
  • Optical Fiber Configuration,
  • Working Area and
  • Cover Top.

Furthermore there is an Extensive Series of Accessories. By choosing or combining different modules one can make the most suitable characterization set-up for any end-user needs. The various options available for each of the building blocks are illustrated in the figure below.

 Core Module options

In Core Unit, the end-user defines the spectral range of interest. The Core Unit houses a Miniaturized PC-driven High Performance Spectrometer, a suitable light source and all the necessary power sources and controllers. The light emitted from the Light Source and the light to be analyzed by the spectrometer, are delivered through optical fibers.

The light source has been carefully designed in order to provide high stability emission spectrum, software and manual controlled light intensity, and very long operation times. The Core Unit case is manufactured from high quality industrial anodized aluminum elements offering a robust and modular construction. The Core Unit is available in several configurations with most typical to be: UV/VIS or VIS/NIR spectrum with standard spectrometer, UV/NIR spectrum with High resolution spectrometer, UV/NIR or VIS/NIR spectrum with scientific grade (cooled) spectrometer, NIR spectrum with NIR spectrometer and D with two spectrometers for combined measurements in extended VIS/NIR spectrum. Every FR-Basic tool is supplied with FR-Monitor software that can control and take advantage of the characteristics of all features of FR-units.

* Thickness measurement range depends on the spectral and refer to a single film layer with refractive index ~1.5 over a reflective substrate.

Case Module Options

Type A

In this case the optical connections are in the front panel for optimum spectrometer's sensitivity. When this option is selected, Cover Top can not be used.

In this case the optical connections are located on the back top of the case. This configuration supports all accessories and thus offers increased modularity of the unit.

Cuvette Holder 2 ways

Cuvette Holder that can host 10mm path length rectangular cuvettes (3.5ml volume), for Absorbance/Transmittance measurements. Cuvette holder for cylindical cuvettes with 100mm optical path length (28.2ml volume) is also available.

Cuvette Holder 4 ways

Cuvette Holder that can accommodate 10mm path length rectangular cuvettes (3.5ml volume) and with 4 optical connections, for Absorbance/Transmittance and also Fluorescense measurements.

Film/Cuvette Holder

A special Holder that supports a) Absorbance/Transmittance measurements of samples up to 10mm thick and b) liquid samples in standard rectangular cuvettes with 10mm path length (3.5ml volume).

Film/Cuvette Holder - Integrating Sphere

A high efficient special Holder that supports a) Absorbance/Transmittance measurements of samples up to 10mm thick and b) liquid samples in standard rectangular cuvettes with 10mm path length (3.5ml volume).

Flow cell

Various types of flow cells are available with different optical path lengh:

  • Ultra short: 100μm - 2000μm optical path lenght (0.03μl - 0.30μl volume)
  • Medium range: 10mm - 100mm optical path lenght (8μl - 25μl volume)
  • Long range: 1m and 5m optical path lenght (240μl/m volume)

MicroFluidic cell

A specially designed Microfluidic cell for the monitoring of Bio-interactions on a standard 25mm x 75mm microscope slide.

Reflection Probe Holder

A special Holder, offering manual X-Y-Z positioning of the reflection probe, for measurement the reflectance of solid samples or/and measure the thickness of single or multilayer films.

Integrating Sphere Holder - Reflectance

A Super Structure with X-Y-Z manual movement, for precise positioning of the integrating sphere over the measurement area.

Integrating Sphere Holder - Irradiance

A Super Structure with X-Y-Z manual movement, for precise positioning of the integrating sphere over the measurement area for irradiance measurements.

Hot plate

For real time measurements of reflectance and film thickness, under thermal treatment (up to 200oC), e.g. polymer films (glass transition temperature, degradation temperature...), bioreactions* etc. It comes with a computer/manual operated PID temperature controller. It may be combined with an external chiller for cooling. Standrad size is 5" OD, other sizes are available on request.

Liquid vessel

For real time film measurements in liquid environment with or without stabilized temperature, e.g. for resist dissolution, coating resistance etc. It may combined with external chiller for cooling under environment temperature. The standard vessel can accommodate samples of any shape, up to 100mm in diameter. The solution volume is 450cc.

Gas Chamber

For real time films measurements under controlled gas ambient, e.g. for swelling measurement of polymer film, coated resistance etc. It may be combined with hot plate and with external chiller for cooling.

Cover Top

Transparent Cover

Transparent cover with polycarbonate panels and anodized Al frame, for measurements under neutral environment (e.g. N2).

Non Transparent

Cover Opaque cover with anodized Al frame and panels, for measurements in dark and under neutral environment (e.g. N2).
